Dear friends in my latest post I am viewing the life of Frederick Douglass. He was born in slavery to a black mother Harriet Bailey and a white father. He achieved independence in 1838, and fought tirelessly for equality and freedom. Frederick Douglass emerged as an American reformer and a national leader.
The blog also includes my free expression on the beautiful surrounding of Maryland.

Frederick Douglass rose to fame in 1845 with the publication of his first book "The Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass".

Frederick Douglass taught himself to read and write. He disguised himself as a sailor to escape slavery.


Frederick Douglass attempted to escape slavery at the age of 15 but was discovered before he could do so.

Frederick Douglass's mother was a field slave he was separated form his mother during infancy and she died when Douglass was only seven. He adopted the surname Douglass from the poem "THE LADY OF THE LAKE" Sir Walter Scott

Black history month is celebrated in February to honor Frederick Douglass. He was the most photographed American of the 19th century. He intentionally kept a serious expression for the public to indicate the bitterness of slavery.
