Mindset by Carol S. Dweck. Ph.D.
The title itself speaks for the content of the book Mindset through which Mr. Carol S Dweck, Ph.D. psychologist emphasized the power of mindset.
The aptitude the talents and the achievements in an individual life is influenced by one’s self perception and a will for improvement. The author has discussed new insights to the power of Mindset explaining it as Fixed Mindset---abilities are fixed and unchangeable, while Growth Mindset refers that abilities can be developed.
People with fixed mindset are less likely to flourish than those of growth mindset. Individuals with Growth mindset believe that talent and traits are changeable with persistent and dedicated efforts. It is referred as “a new psychology of success”.
Following are the main contents of the book:
THE MINDSET:
· The definition of mindsets, and the influence of mindset on an individual.
· The truth about ability, potentials and accomplishments.
· Why and how are people different?
· How to grow your own mindset by efforts and change the meaning of failure.
CHANGING MINDSETS FOR PARENTS, TEACHERS AND COACHES:
· The nature of change and a journey to a Growth Mindset.
· Mindset is the willpower and how to achieve it.
· Facilitating people to understand their potentials and deeper growth of their mindset. A praise should always be accompanied by the message for further enhancement of skills
· Constructive criticism serves as a positive approach to a problem.
I find this book a moral boosting and a motivating for me as there are inspirational stories of artist, scientist, sportsman and the people who overcame overwhelming obstacles to create an extra ordinary life. Accordingly this book gives a very clear message to readers that confidence, commitment and compassion are the key to success.
